For every IV member that gets their GC, would it be too much to ask them to contribute say at least $100/- ? May be this can become a norm and the starting point for an "IV Alumni" :)

Since I did not know how to write my name in my native alphabet, I askd my wife to write it for me. Is this an issue? Is there any requirement that one must write the name in native alphabet in one's own handwriting?

It is my observation that when we do Google search for a topic on immigration, if our search words match with the titles of our posts in any thread, the serach shows our threads. I observed this with my "AC21 Update" post. Now when I do Google search on words "AC21 Update" the first result displayed is my thread. :)
That means if we cleverly design our thread titles, our threads would be displayed in many Google searches. If this is the observation of all members, would all of you be careful to attach a smart title to your thread? Can all the members be made aware of this fact?
May be I am repeating something that is already discussed, but still.........

I have a website for past 5 years. I started this when i was a H1B holder. It has a shopping card from 2checkout.com
One has to register the name of the firm in the county and secondly get a sellers permit. To register a fiticious business name would cost you 25 dollars then a adv in a local newspaper for 2-3 times and then you can apply for sellers permit.
Once you have a sellers permit and you are paying taxes there should not be any problem.

These Immigration lawyers should all be rounded up and publicly FLOGGED to stop them from making such BLUNDERS!! :p
we should go to consumer court and ask attorney to refund money as he/she did not provided services properly and made mistakes. Why should one pay?

Hi All,
We took an infopass appointment at the Local USCIS office to get a temporary proof of our permanent residency status. Can anyone suggest us what documents to show ?
As I understand we need to show passport , driver's license,485 approval notice, police report and I-90 application.
Is there anything else that we need to show?

I completely disagree with what gc_on_demand is saying.
Even as recently as this week, Congress has passed some immigration provisions that has been added to other major bills and Obama has signed them into law. I do not believe that Hispanic Caucus is simply blocking every immigration legislation until CIR- that's just BS.
Based on the statistics published by USCIS,

such mistakes are not uncommon, i have seen instances in the past where they will accept corrections if you write a letter with a clear explanation. A note of caution when i called USCIS in the past to inquire about sending corrections, they cautioned me to wait until i have a receipt, they said, otherwise the stuff may get lost in mail and will be un-traceable.

irrational - Sorry to say this is little bit unlucky case. This happened to me also. My case got transferred to VSC from TSC in July 2009 and from then it is sitting there with no progress. Taken info pass but no use. (Yet to think about the next steps!).
I applied for EAD and AP in Aug last week and got the approved copies in Sep second week. I sent the application to TSC.
mmanurker - Can you please tell me how long your application was present in VSC? Also did you do anything to move it back to TSC or NSC.
My little daughter's got shuffled from TSC-VSC (NBC?) and after several months got a mail transferred back to TSC. I talked with IO twice, one time I was told they got it back in last oct and this evening I wanted to know if it is pre-adjudicated, IO said it does not show in their system....To follow it is so frustrating

Questions:-
1) To take an appointment in India we need to get the HDFC bar code, for which we need to present the copy of first page of passport. Can we take an appoinment on the basis of old passport & then carry both the old & new passport at the time of interview?
-- Yes. You can do that and explain the consular officer abt the need for new passport
If yes, on which passport will we get the stamp? If only the old passport then do we need to take another appointment later to get the new passport stamped.
-- Stamping in one of the ppt is enough. You need to carry both of your passports wherever you go. In my case i went for my stamping last month and my passport is expiring Aug 07. I have my 3 year stamping on my ppt.
2) Do we need to take seperate appointment for my husband & me to get the stamping done in India ?
-- One appt for both of u is enough. There is provision to add upto 10 applicants of the same family in 1 appt slot.
3) Will appointment be available in Feb or we r too late ?
-- They have opened it up in all embassies. You will get it.

Really tragic, I noticed the cause of death was suicide by asphyxiation, they found a plastic bag around his head ?, that totally seems suspicious to me, an IITian will have a tons of job offers in India, so if finances were his problem that is ruled out, love problems ?, sad to see a 23 year old kid pass away like this.
